About Leon Nigrosh:
Leon I. Nigrosh is a noted ceramic artist and author whose home/studio is in Worcester, Massachusetts. His handmade work in fine porcelain luster can be found in many private collections. He has had numerous one-artist exhibitions and is represented in a number of galleries nationwide.
Leon holds a BFA in ceramics from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in ceramics from Rochester Institute of Technology. He has taught for a number of years at Clark University in Worcester, MA; the Worcester Center for Crafts, and also Rhode Island College. He continues to give master classes and workshops in all facets of claywork.
Leon and his daughter, Maya, recently exhibited stoneware and steel-maille sculpture at the Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester, MA. The sculptures were inspired by the museum's collection of historical arms and armor.
Some of Leon's public commissions include a large ceramic wallwork for the JCC in Springfield, MA., a porcelain wall mural for the Worcester Historical Museum and a porcelain signature wall for the Family Health Center in Barre, MA. He has also designed and executed private commissions in Boston, New York and California.
Leon is also a respected author. The revised and expanded third edition
of CLAYWORK: Form and Idea in Ceramic
Design, published by Davis Publications of Worcester, is now
in its third edition. Leon has also written LOWFIRE,
now in its seventh printing. His most recent book, SCULPTING
CLAY, is in its third printing. For more than seven years
he has continued to write weekly art reviews for the Worcester
Phoenix. He writes for Worcester Magazine and the
Pulse. He is also a contributing editor to artsMEDIA. |
