Father and daughter artists Leon and Maya Nigrosh recently collaborated to create a series of original sculptures based on artifacts which are part of the Higgins Armory Museum's permanent collection in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Using handbuilding techniques, Leon constructed high-fired stoneware pieces that Maya adorned with custom-made steel chain maille, fashioned after the Japanese nanban kusari method.
By taking this fresh viewpoint, the artists have not only created unique artworks, but they have extended the existence of the museum's historical arms and armor far beyond the realm of practicality and protection, and have revealed these objects as works of art themselves.
